Why Does My Chin Look Textured or 'Orange Peel' — and Can Botox Fix It?

By Dr. Firas Abdulmajeed

A textured, dimpled, or 'orange peel' chin is one of those concerns that many people notice but few know has a straightforward solution. If your chin looks uneven or pebbled — particularly when you are talking, smiling, or having your photo taken — the cause is almost always the same overactive muscle.

What Causes Chin Dimpling?

Chin dimpling is typically caused by the mentalis muscle. When this muscle contracts too strongly — which can happen habitually in some people — it pulls the skin inward at multiple points, creating the characteristic dimpled or cobblestone texture. The effect is most visible when speaking or smiling, but in more pronounced cases it can be visible even at rest.

This is not a skin condition. The texture comes from the muscle pulling the skin, not from any surface-level change to the skin itself. This is why skincare products do not address it — and why a muscle-level treatment does.

How Does Botox Smooth the Chin?

With a small amount of Botox — typically 4 to 8 units — placed precisely into the mentalis, we relax the muscle just enough to stop the excessive pulling on the skin. The chin becomes smoother, more relaxed, and more balanced. The treatment does not change the shape of your face or eliminate your ability to move the chin normally.

Will I Still Move My Chin Naturally?

Yes — completely. The goal of chin Botox is not to freeze the area but to soften the overactivity that is causing the texture. After treatment, you will talk, smile, and express yourself just as you did before — but with a calmer, more refined appearance when you do. Photos in particular tend to look significantly better, as the dimpling that catches light and shadow is smoothed away.

When Will I See Results, and How Long Do They Last?

Chin dimpling responds quickly to Botox. Most patients see early improvement within 5 to 7 days, with full smoothing visible by two weeks. Results typically last around 3 to 4 months, and consistency over time keeps the chin looking smooth and refined.

Chin dimpling is one of the quickest and most satisfying treatments we offer at Rayhana Esthetics. It requires only a few units, takes minutes, and the result is immediately apparent. Book a free consultation with Dr. Firas Abdulmajeed.
